Kovalev Vladimir Vladimirovich performed combat missions during a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine from February 24 to July 1, 2022 both as part of the forward command post of the brigade, and as part of the crew of the Orlan-10 UAV complex. Repeatedly, thanks to the professional, accurate and decisive actions of Major Kovalyov, the enemy's manpower and artillery systems were detected and destroyed in a timely manner. This allowed the units of the brigade to perform combat missions with minimal losses and gain a foothold on the specified lines.

It was necessary to perform tasks under the constant fire of enemy artillery and aviation, but, despite this, Major Kovalev never lost the presence of mind, confidently led the personnel, with his courage and dedication instilling in his subordinates a sense of confidence in the positive outcome of the battle. Repeatedly, as part of the combined groups, he personally participated in search operations to search for and evacuate UAVs from the territory controlled by the enemy.

In the period from December 2016 to March 2017, Major Kovalev, as the commander of a company of unmanned aerial vehicles, performed special tasks during the military operation to combat terrorism in the Syrian Arab Republic. As part of the consolidated crew of the Orlan-10 complex, together with the SOF units, Major Kovalev repeatedly participated in operations to destroy ISIS gangs that settled in the mountains and desert. He participated in the liberation of towns and cities captured by bandits, conducting aerial reconnaissance and transmitting the exact coordinates of the enemy to special forces units.

Thanks to the professional, accurate and confident actions of Major Kovalev, the units suffered minimal losses and successfully completed their tasks. He himself also more than once as part of the combined units moved to the front and directly participated in the cleansing of villages from enemy manpower, continuously conducted aerial reconnaissance using a quadrocopter.
