Colonel Yuri Medvedev was in command of the 37th Motor Rifle Brigade but suffered heavy loss in the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. He is reported to have lost more than half of his 1500 men.

In response to his heavy loss, one of his own men ran him over with a tank. Initial reports suggested he was taken to a hospital in Belarus after his legs were crushed but later he was pronounced dead.
