On July 20, 2022, he died in Ukraine in the village of Zolotarevka, Lugansk region, while on duty in a special military operation.

Vitaly Tsikul is survived by his wife and two children. The widow Natalya clarified to our publication that her husband was the chief of staff of a tank regiment, had previously been wounded and was in the hospital.
“I still can’t understand why he got into that tank.” He should not have been seated either by position or rank. Every day I wake up and ask: “Why did you sit down?” Natalya said with tears in a telephone conversation. “Shortly before his death, he was wounded, a shrapnel hit him in the thigh, he was in the Burdenko hospital, then in a sanatorium in Zvenigorod. I visited him there for 12 days. He was given a medal for courage, and then he went to the front again.
A Hero's Desk dedicated to Vitaly Tsikul was opened at school No. 4 in the city of Chebarkul.The guests of the event were the hero’s mother, his wife, sons, and brother.
