Clearing the 350-metre-long route and defusing about six anti-tank mines, the demining team encountered a numerically superior Ukrainian ambush. During the clash, the enemy detonated a controlled landmine. Roman Khlynovsky received a wound incompatible with life and died on the spot. The rest of the group, having received injuries of varying severity, were hospitalized.
