The courageous fellow countryman of the Lebyazhentsev, Alexei Osokin, participated in a special military operation from its first days. He was among those who landed from helicopters on February 24 at the airport of the village of Hostomel in the Kyiv region of Ukraine and for two days, until reinforcements arrived, kept the airport surrounded by numerically superior forces.

On March 3, Guards Major Osokin and his comrades carried out the task of liberating Hostomel. During a fierce battle, his colleagues were ambushed by enemy crossfire and lost the ability to operate in the main composition of the company. Then, without hesitation, Osokin with the crew of the airborne combat vehicle began to evacuate his comrades. He was wounded by a sniper, but all the time he was conscious, Alexei continued to command the unit. He was taken to the medical center of the airfield, but the wounds were incompatible with life.
