Volunteer Convict - Lieutenant Colonel

Unit: Unknown

Cargo ID: #1444

English Name: Aleksey Aleksandrovich Zhdanov

Russian Name: Жданов Алексей Александрович

Aleksey received his sentence — 13 years of imprisonment — for the shooting of 38-year-old Azerbaijani man Georgy Akopdzhanov (video below). The tragedy occurred on the night of October 16, 2017, on Novoslobodskaya Street. An Infiniti, driven by Akopdzhanov, stopped at a traffic light behind the lieutenant colonel's Lada. Zhdanov did not immediately react when the light turned green. Akopdzhanov allegedly began to honk at him, and after overtaking, looked at the Zhdanov with disdain. Zhdanov decided to take revenge:

"He honked at me, and I was driving in a bad mood because of domestic problems and got angry."

Zhdanov followed Akopdzhanov to a parking lot on Novoslobodskaya Street and approached the man saying:

"Are you the most important one here?"

Akopdzhanov swore at Zhdanov, and in response Zhdanov pulled out a Makarov pistol and shot Akopdzhanov six times.

By the time of his arrest, the lieutenant colonel had managed to burn the Lada in a forest in the Tula region and throw away the gun. Incidentally, he allegedly found the weapon on the back seat after giving a lift to a drunken group. The numbers on the gun were filed off, and Zhdanov decided to keep the gun for himself. In justification of his actions, he complained about the hard days of a retired law enforcement officer. He said that after leaving the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he worked for some time in the Federal Migration Service, and then went freelance — he earned his living as a private taxi driver.

Prior to this incident, he was accused (though never convicted) of several other crimes. In 1999, the he was suspected of falsifying the materials of a criminal case on robbery while working as an operative in the 2nd police department of Podolsk, convincing the victim to withdraw her statement. He was fired, but soon reinstated and became the head of the criminal investigation department in Klimovsk.

In August, 2001, while working as the head of the criminal investigation department of the Klimovsk police department in the Moscow region, he was suspected of taking bribes of about $3,000 USD per month to protect prostitutes on Simferopol highway. But the case did not go to court.

Zhdanov was also suspected of involvement in another murder of an Azerbaijani - on September 8 of the same year in New Moscow. The private taxi driver was found shot dead in a Tula forest (the same forest Zhdanov later disposed of the Lada he was driving when he killed Akopdzhanov).
