One of the new schools in Makhachkala will be named after Alexei Sukhanov. Major Sukhanov was killed by mortar fire when he was withdrawing tanks in front of the advancing enemy.

The story of the feat of Major Alexei Sukhanov:

There were fierce defensive battles against the infantry and armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the urban-type village of Vladimirovka, which is located in the Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine. Numerous oak groves helped the defenders, playing the role of shelters, helping to maneuver their forces and means.

According to the combat manual, the battalion headquarters should be located at a distance of one and a half kilometers from the battalion's battle formations. But this is in theory and not in the first battalion of the Marine Corps, which was commanded by Major Alexei Sergeevich Sukhanov, call sign "Sunset".

The battalion commander was with his marines and directed the battle from forward positions. The forces of the AFU were vastly superior, and every sailor, mortar or armored vehicle was important to hold the village. It is very dangerous to direct the battle from forward positions, but this is the only way to react very quickly to the actions of the enemy, even despite modern means of communication. In fact, most of the famous military leaders known to the whole world did just that – they fought in the front ranks of their battle formations.

Battalion commander Sukhanov knew the area he was defending very well, but the long-awaited reinforcement of several tanks was here for the first time. "Sunset" was a passionate hockey fan, and his actions on the battlefield were similar to a hockey match, where defense and offense change very quickly. To repel the attack from the new direction, there were several suitable places from which it was possible to fire from tank guns and at the same time be partially covered by the terrain.

"Sunset" personally rode on armor to indicate the positions to the tankers. Yes, according to the regulations, he could not do this, but give a verbal order in the form of - to take up defense along such and such a line, in the direction of such-and-such, the sector of fire is such-and-such. He could have, but he didn't. Sukhanov was not such a person, guided by the principle that if you want everything to be good, then do it yourself. The enemy did not take Volodymyrivka, soon the marines, as happened more than once in their glorious history, repelled the offensive and went on the attack themselves.

But without their battalion commander. Major Sukhanov was killed by mortar fire when he was withdrawing tanks in front of the advancing enemy. He is survived by his wife and three children in Kaspiysk.
