He graduated from Sokolovskaya secondary school and Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School with honors. Afterwards he served in the 331st Guards Parachute Regiment Kostroma as a parachute platoon commander with the rank of senior lieutenant, then deputy commander of a parachute company, and then as commander of a parachute company with the rank of captain. Later, Major Alexander Lopin was deputy commander of the parachute battalion, then chief of staff.
