In Ukraine, 36-year-old Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Koval from Volgograd died. The military man served as chief of the operational department of the 20th motorized rifle division.
“We received the news of his death on the second day after the incident, he died in July, along with the command,” said the wife of the military Elena. - On the fifth day after his death, we buried him in the Belgorod region.
Elena and Sergey met many years ago, when the military man was still a cadet at the academy.
"Then he immediately left for Chechnya, and then, when he returned, he took me away and we never parted again. He was a true patriot of his country, he was ready to go and defend his homeland, to defend his family,” Elena said. - Sergei went to Ukraine one of the first. As soon as the special operation began. We were still in Armenia then, from there he was transferred to Ukraine.

On July 9 and 10, during a special operation in Ukraine, the commander of the 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division, Colonel Alexei Gorobets , the division's chief of staff, Colonel Sergei Kens, and deputy commander, Colonel Alexei Abramchenko, were killed. In August, in Volgograd, they said goodbye to the deputy commander of the 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division, Colonel Kanat Mukatov.
Son (Igor) and Daughter (Sophia) receiving Christmas presents from some injured soldier because their father got himself killed half a year ago.
On December 9, on the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland, in the Belgorod museum-diorama, two Belgorod residents, Dmitry Beketov and Sergei Koval, were posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.
