“It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that on March 6, while performing tasks to conduct a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine, a native of the Zelenodolsk region, deputy commander of a marine brigade, Colonel Dmitry Sofronov, died. While fulfilling his military duty, he showed an example of true courage, strength and bravery! A worthy son of the Fatherland, an example of honor and valor. Everlasting memory!" — the head of the Zelenodolsk district, Mikhail Afanasyev, announced the death of Sofronov. In the morning he visited the colonel's family and personally expressed his condolences.

“Daughter Kira is finishing 11th grade... A very kind family, all the relatives have gathered. The family is hardworking... They understand what happened. They say that Dmitry himself chose the military profession and prepared for it, he did everything consciously,” Afanasyev said.

According to our information, farewell to Sofronov, whose body had already been delivered to the republic, was supposed to take place today, March 9, 2022, at the Kazan Tank School from 12:00 to 15:00. However, at the last minute the event was canceled. As a result, as the Zelenodolsk district administration reported, they will say goodbye to Sofronov tomorrow, March 10, at 11:00–12:00 in the village of Belo-Bezvodnoe, where he is from.
