By declaring his connections to Kan-Bolat [an organized crime boss], Alisher Makhmutov hoped to save himself, but in reality, he signed his own death warrant: Colonel Saryg-Dongak flew into a rage.
The colonel stopped the car and the detainee was taken out and positioned at the edge of a ravine. According to the operatives’ testimonies, their chief beat Makhmutov, who stood before him in handcuffs, so severely within a matter of minutes that his face became a bloody mess. When ordered to apologize, Makhmutov refused.
Then, the future "most polite policeman" of Tuva demanded that a canister of gasoline be brought. According to one version, the officers initially disobeyed the colonel and poured water over the beaten Alisher, for which Saryg-Dongak attacked them with his fists. According to another version, they immediately brought gasoline.
According to investigators, Saryg-Dongak brought a lighter to Makhmutov, who was handcuffed, and set him on fire.
The next moment, the entire area echoed with Alisher's wild screams as he burned alive. Then the officers brought a hammer, and one of them struck his head several times, finishing off the victim who was still burning. Afterward, Makhmutov's body was covered with car tires and wooden boards, which were then set on fire again.
