Battalion Commander - Unknown
Unit: PMC "Redut"
ℹ️
PMC "Redut" is a Russian pseudo-private military company led by military intelligence (GRU).
After the fall of Wagner PMC in 2023, the previously almost unknown PMC Redut became the largest mercenary formation in Russia. The recruitment structure of Redut included many units fighting in Ukraine. According to journalists, more than 20 armed formations with a total number of tens of thousands of people hired fighters through this PMC.
Redut units do not have official contracts with the Ministry of Defense or the National Guard, like volunteers from BARS and regional battalions. Recruits are offered to conclude a civil contract for a period of six months or more. Those who join Redut are not given ranks, but positions.
As a battalion commander, Pavel Frolov would be the equivalent of a Major. In keeping with prior precedent, we are listing him as such even though he lacks the official rank.

Commander of a volunteer battalion in PMC "Redut", Pavel Frolov with the call sign "Pioneer" died near Avdiivka.
He was one of the first to participate in the preparation of the legendary operation to capture the fortified area "Tsar's Hunt". 150 Russian soldiers crawled more than 2 km along an abandoned and flooded pipe with a diameter of 0.8 meters.
While working underground, many lacked oxygen due to the metal-cutting torches and cramped conditions - some even lost consciousness.
Military intelligence of the Russian Armed Forces and volunteers made their way into the territory of the “Tsar’s Hunt”, going behind enemy lines, after which they cut off most of this fortified area from the main group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Avdiivka. Pavel never lived to see the capture of the fortified area, in the preparation of which he took part. During the battle he stepped on a mine.
