The battalion under the command of Major Shlyapkin was sent to participate in the Invasion of Ukraine. The soldiers valued Dmitry Alexandrovich for his courage and justice and called him “Bateya.”(Unknown if this is his Call Sign)

One winter, during one of the battles, he was wounded in the legs. After treatment he again took command of the battalion. The serviceman died during the fighting in the Zaporozhye direction on July 5, 2023. He was only 36 years old.
