During the feast, the premises of the hotel and restaurant complex were hit by Ukrainian artillery. Rogozin and Khotsenko received shrapnel wounds. Rogozin's bodyguard Mikhail Bridasov died on the spot. The driver Dmitry Muravyov, bodyguards Vladimir Huseynov and Aleksandr Shemyakin , who was the director of the RTC "Okhorona Roskosmos" and a former officer of the SSO, were seriously injured. The last two died later in hospitals.
Rogozin was wounded in the shoulder. The shrapnel stopped a few millimeters from the spinal cord — in the cervical spine. As evidenced by his correspondence and the photo he sent, there was no wound in the buttock, as started to be written in social networks and mass media.
And already in the morning, Rogozin wrote in his Telegram channel: "It was a working meeting, in a narrow circle and in a calm environment after returning from one of our volunteer units. We lived in this hotel for the last months, and in 8 years the enemy never fired at us this place. Someone leaked the information, and around 7:45 p.m. there were several high-precision hits, including where we were directly."
In the following days, Rogozin spread information that "the Ukrainian special services had been preparing an attempt on him for a long time."
