> In January 2023, he left the service due to retirement with the rank of Major, and two months later he signed a contract with the Wagner PMC. Given his work experience, he was offered a position as an instructor at a training camp, but he refused because he believed that he had no right to teach others if he himself had not participated in combat operations.

> On May 20, 2023, the Russian flag was raised on high-rise buildings in Bakhmut. On this day, during the final assault, Roman died. He covered his comrades with himself, receiving a mortal wound.
